LWVMI ACTION ALERT: URGE STATE REPS TO VOTE NO ON HB 4765
The Michigan House Election Integrity Committee voted to report HB 4765 to the entire House for a vote. HB 4765 amends Michigan Election Law to require proof of citizenship when registering to vote. LWVMI opposes this bill and urges you to contact your state Representative to urge a "no" vote on this bill.
As we know from our work to oppose the federal SAVE Act and the House Joint Resolution B, these proposals will establish requirements for voting that only serve to block citizens from their right to vote. For example, citizens would need to purchase an enhanced driver's license or a passport to meet these new registration requirements.
Michigan citizens must already certify their citizenship on the voter registration application.
